The United Neighbors of Shawnee team has come up with a new plan to request the City of Shawnee to purchase the Wonderscope property and create a gathering place for the community. The city conducted a survey that shows that citizens in each of the four wards consider a Farmer's Market their overwhelmingly top priority when considering spending of parks and rec money.
If Shawnee had a vibrant, bustling Farmer's Market on the weekends, it could draw traffic from all over and citizens from other areas could enjoy the wonderful shops and restaurants downtown. We could host outdoor concerts and food truck festivals, like the ones hosted by Merriam.
The possibilities are endless, but the proof is in the survey. The residents of Shawnee want and need a Farmer's Market, and we suggest that this site is perfect for that purpose! It is adjacent to a city owned parking lot at Splash Cove and would free up parking spaces for events at Old Shawnee Town, parades, and more.
